Our Story

About Me

I’m Andrew Massingham, a Business Studies teacher based in London. Over the past six years, I have continually sought opportunities to refine my teaching approach, ensuring that my students receive an educational experience that goes beyond just delivering content. I believe in developing key soft skills that will serve them in all areas of life.

In recent years, I’ve discovered a passion for context-driven teaching, where students can grasp business principles through active participation and real-world applications. I’m deeply committed to empowering the next generation of leaders, and this drives me to innovate and evolve in my teaching methods. My goal is to shape open-minded, forward-thinking individuals who are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Our Journey So Far..

November 2022

While teaching an elective course on entrepreneurship, I quickly noticed a significant issue: the traditional approach focused too much on the 'big idea' and not so much on understanding the core principles of starting and running a business. This realisation led me to reflect on the true objective of a course like this.

I wanted the course to be driven by a simple, relevant context to which the students could apply their learning. The focus needed to be on business principles and developing key soft skills. The course consisted of students working in groups and competing against one another to see who was able to run the most successful lemonade stand business.

December 2023

Moving into the winter term I wanted to develop another course where students were able to apply their understanding of business to another context. I decided on a winter holiday market. Students ran stalls selling decorations, baked goods, stationery, accessories, and hot beverages. In only an hour of sales, students were able to raise over $3000 for their chosen charities.

June 2024

With a significant increase in demand, we were able to run the Great Lemonade Stand Off for a second year running. We wanted to ensure engagement remained high, and therefore added in new features that offered gamified learning and community development.

I was able to take some time to reflect on these courses, and consider the potential to scale this initiative beyond the school I was working at. Moving forward, my objective is to coordinate with schools across the city and outline how each of our courses can add value to their existing curriculum.
